Parking on the path could soon cost you £70
Having recently reported irresponsible motorists using our footpaths as car parks we are pleased to hear that this could soon incur a fine of £70.
It has been illegal to park on a footpath in London since 1974 and MPs have now launched an investigation that could see penalties rolled out across the rest of the country.
Currently, outside of London, it is only illegal for lorries to stop on pavements, but people who park in a dangerous position or cause an unnecessary obstruction to the road can still be fined.
The Transport Select Committee has said it will examine the problems caused when vehicles are parked with at least one wheel on a pavement - including blocking access for wheelchair users and pushchairs, and damage to surfaces not designed to be driven over.
