The annual Weldon fete 2019, the most successful to date, was held on Monday August 26th on the village cricket ground with a record number of visitors estimated at over 600. Even the sun turned up!
Organised by a small committee, this year proved to be bigger and better than ever before. As well as the ever popular Vikings and Tug of War, new stalls and displays added to the fun. Raffle tickets being sold during the day to raise funds for next years fete were sold out by 3pm!
Sue Still, Fete committee member and chief organiser posted online to express her thanks.
I would just like to thank everyone who came out in the sweltering heat on Bank Holiday Monday and supported the village fete. A lot of local groups raised valuable funds for their groups or charities and hopefully everyone enjoyed themselves. The committee did an amazing job and with an average age of 65 we would welcome new members and appreciate any ideas people may have for future events.
The Tug of war was won by M & Z Motors after a very close battle with The Shoulder of Mutton! Only four teams entered so why not put your own in next year? It is the most anticipated part of the day and lots of fun to take part in and watch!
Children also took part this year with a Boys versus Girls competition! Sadly we cannot publish the pictures of this but perhaps next year we can obtain permission from parents.
