Every year the Weldon branch of the Royal British Legion works tirelessly to raise money. This year's appeal started with the October quiz night on Friday October 25th. It attracted 113 people and after hall cost and quiz prize raised £875 which was a great start!
During the following two weeks poppy boxes were located at key locations throughout the village and were well supported. Location points were Londis Store and Post Office, DK Barbers, Euro Garage, Starbucks, Cricket Club and Weldon School. Also during this time there was a static classic vehicle (pictured) based at the Euro Garage and manned by British Legion members.
This year there were 12 local house to house collectors who with their boxes raised a further £1,200 from local generosity. A great effort from the volunteers who not all are RBL members, a further 3 or 4 volunteers to complete this important team are needed, especially to cover new areas such as Priors Hall etc.
There has also been a raffle of a Horse portrait which has raised a further £200 and the winner will be drawn at Weldon Cricket Club on Wednesday 27th November by the Editor of Weldon Village Online.
The Village Memorial service on November 10th, as we previously reported, ended the appeal with a service at St Mary's Church which kindly donated the collection of £244.
Overall your village raised just over £4,000 for this year's appeal.
