With the increasing number of homes being built in and around the village the roads were always going to get busier. The East of England had the highest average number of cars or vans owned per household in the entire country at 1.4 in 2018.
Despite a regular police speed van presence in the village many commuters are still using the village as a 'cut through' rather than take the bypass and use it for what it was built for many years ago.
This time lapse video, taken over a 15 minute period at 5pm on a Thursday afternoon sees over 200 vehicles travelling on Stamford Road, some exceeding the 30mph limit with most continuing on to Kettering Road to exit the other side of Weldon.
One village resident and Parish Councillor is now asking for support in his plight to have Kettering Road closed to through traffic. The road leaving the village would end at the entrance to the Woodland Park. This would mean the traffic entering and leaving Weldon will be the majority of residents only.
When the right turn from the dual carriageway on to Kettering Road was closed for 6 months last year for roadworks, Weldon was noticeably quieter and much safer. It is being proposed that the road is closed both ways, ensuring that drivers and lorries use the bypass as it was intended.
