The RAF were called to Corby yesterday (Saturday March 23rd) to safely explode a WWII grenade that was found in a field.
The Squadron based locally at RAF Wittering are highly trained in Explosive Disposal. RAF 5131 BS Squadron were called to a field opposite the Gospel Hall in Rockingham Road after the grenade was found there.
The Mills grenade was the first modern fragmentation grenade used by the British Army and saw widespread use in World War I.
