The chart above is taken from the data recorded by the speed monitor on Stamford Road, Weldon. This is a 30mph stretch of road and residents have been campaigning for many years to have traffic calming measures put in place to reduce the volume of traffic and also to restrict the maximum speed possible on the road.
The latest call from local people is for Kettering Road to be closed as a through road to stop traffic using the village as a 'rat run', which means avoiding the bypass to gain a couple of minutes advantage on other vehicles.
In the last few years two people have been hit by vehicles and seriously injured on the zebra crossing and the pictures below show what happened when a car hit a parked car allegedly at 30mph. Shunting it up the kerb and through a stone wall narrowly missing a family's window and writing both vehicles off. Imagine if that was a person that had been hit!
The vehicle recorded at 74mph in December and many more over the 30mph limit is proof that there is a serious issue with speeding as well as the sheer volume of vehicles using the road that don't need to.
Do you think there is a problem? Do you think we should protect our village?
