Weldon had the most welcomed surprise yesterday (Friday February 14th) when lorries and workmen arrived on the old Stamford Road adjacent to East Crescent.
Facebook was a hive of activity as we were inundated with messages and pictures of work being carried out which appeared to be concrete bollards being lifted in to place across the road.
We decided to pop down and see for ourselves and what we found out will delight pretty much everyone we are sure! We met a gentleman from the Northants highways agency who told us that the road was being officially closed from today (Friday 14th) and it was taking place as Travellers on a local camp were due to be moved on this weekend and their usual move is to Weldon.
We were also advised that these concrete blocks were only a temporary measure. Work will continue on the closure of the road with April 30th being the proposed date for the completion of a permanent solution. We are not aware of exactly what this is despite contacting the Northants Highways agency directly.
The agency did tell us that the road was being closed was due to 'traffic safety issues'.
Comments on Facebook were of relief and happiness as local residents no longer fear the arrival of the unwelcome guests.
